Leica M3 Single Stroke with Summicron 50mm f2 Lens

Introduced in 1954 the Leica M3 was the first M (bayonet) mount Leica, it was in production for the next 12 years and is still the most popular Leica ever. Instinctive to use and totally reliable, this camera uses no battery, it is well known for unsurpassed quality.

Serial Number: 1044891 (Feb. 1962)

The lens cap, goggles, PC sync caps, Leica meter (no longer accurate), instruction manual and (not shown) a well worn but fully functional Leica brown leather case are included.

One of the premier, timeless classic and collectable rangefinder cameras. This one has seen very light use, is working perfectly in every regard and is in EXCELLENT+++ condition.

Specifics of this camera:

Optical -- Exceptional, the view finder is bright, crisp and clear, the rangefinder is clear and accurate, the framing lines are bright and full. The lens is clean, crisp and clear with no scratches, dust, fungus or haze. You will get the incredibly sharp images this outfit in known for.

Mechanical -- All mechanical parts work perfectly, the bayonet mount is as new, the pressure plate is smooth, the selftimer works fine, the film advance is silky smooth, the shutter is accurate at all speeds even the slowest ones. There are no loose or missing parts. ALL mechanical functions work just as they should.

Cosmetic -- Both the top and bottom plates are in unusually excellent condition. The satin chrome finish retains all it's original lustre, all the lettering is bright, crisp and full. The main signs of use are some marks on the top plate from sliding the lightmeter on & off and a spot of worn paint on the enamel of the back door. The vulcanite is complete and is in great condition with no cracking, peeling or bruises. You can use the new zoom feature on the photos to see just how lovely this camera is.

All in all an wonderful example of this wonderful 54 year old. They do not make them like this anymore and perhaps never again will.

Camera Buyers Tip #1

COSMETIC CONDITION: The cosmetic condition of the camera is the most important clue to its prior handling. Some examples: If the camera is dusty you should expect that the same is true internally, the camera likely needs a CLA (cleaning, lubrication & adjustment). If the camera has dents & dings it has been handled harshly and all functions are suspect. If heavy brassing (finish worn through) is evident then heavy use is indicated and shutter and mirror functions need careful attention. On the flip side, if the camera is beautiful on the outside it has been treated carefully and may have seen only light use. In this case only normal maintence may be required. Since there is no accurate way to describe the cosmetic condition of a camera, and no two people would agree anyway the photos are the final source of information. REPEAT- Carefully inspect the photos of the camera for clues to its previous usage and handling. If the photos are so poor that you cannot determine the details that may be a sign that the cosmetic condition is poor. BE WARY if the photos are very dark, small or out of focus.
